Women's clothing deals: what to know

Dresses, tops, knitwear, pants, jackets and outerwear from Australian boutiques and labels, which make up the biggest share of fashion deals on the site. End-of-season and archive sales are where discounts of 50 to 70 per cent are real; a mid-season 'sale' is often 20 per cent off a price that was raised for it.

Common searches: midi dress, linen pants, knit jumper, blazer, maxi dress, denim jacket.

Before you buy

  • Check the size chart against your own measurements; boutique labels run small or large by brand, and 'one size' rarely means everyone.
  • A sale price is only a deal if your size is in stock; archive sales sell out of size 8 to 12 within hours.
  • Sale and archive items are usually final sale or exchange-only, so read the returns line before buying.
  • Fabric matters for the price: linen, silk and merino justify more than polyester at the same markdown.

What the specs mean

Australia has no sizing standard for adults' clothing, so an 8 at one boutique is a 12 at another. The size, fabric and fit lines a store writes tell you more than the number on the tag, and the model line gives you a reference body.

Size
Boutiques sell in Australian sizes, US sizes (about four to six numbers lower) or XS–XL, and some list all three on one tag ('XS / 6'). Read the sizing system named with the size (AU, US, UK, EU) and the store's size chart in centimetres; 'one size' rarely fits all.
Fabric
A composition such as '95% viscose, 5% elastane' tells you drape, stretch, warmth and how the garment washes; 'luxe fabric' tells you nothing. Look for fibre percentages and the store's own stretch note; the site shows them as the store listed them and never guesses a fibre.
Fit
'Relaxed', 'oversized' or 'true to size' is the designer's intention, and a note like 'runs small, size up' is the store's experience with returns. Weigh the fit note with the model line and the size chart before choosing between two sizes.
Model wears
Boutiques state the model's height and the size she wears, which is the only body you can see the garment on. Compare the model's height with your own to judge where a midi or maxi will actually fall.
Length
'Mini', 'midi' and 'maxi' are hem positions, and a length in centimetres is measured from a particular point (shoulder, bust or waist) for one size. Look for the measured length and the size it was taken on, not just the word.
Sleeve and neckline
Sleeve and neckline words decide what the piece layers with and whether it suits an occasion. Check the store's own words (halter, V-neck, puff sleeve) against the photos, which often show the back only in a second image.
Lining
Unlined sheer fabrics need a slip; a lined bodice changes how a dress wears in summer. Look for 'fully lined', 'unlined' or a lining composition line.
Care
Australian stores must give care instructions for clothing, and 'dry clean only' is an ongoing cost. Compare the care line: cold machine wash, hand wash, dry clean, and whether it can be tumble dried.
