What the specs mean

Team and racquet sports sell by size systems of their own: ball sizes by age, racquet grip sizes, cricket bat sizes from Harrow to short handle. The listings here state the size variant reliably and the construction details only sometimes.

Ball size
Balls are sized for age groups: football sizes 3 to 5, basketball 5 to 7, netball 4 and 5, AFL sizes 2 to 5. Compare the size number with the code's age guide and whether the ball is match or training grade.
Racquet weight and balance
Unstrung weight in grams and the balance point decide how a racquet swings; head size in square inches sets power and forgiveness. Compare unstrung weight, balance (head light or head heavy), head size and string pattern.
Grip size
Tennis and squash grips are sold in sizes (L1 to L5, or 4 1/8" to 4 5/8") and a wrong grip strains the forearm. Compare the grip size on the listing with the racquet you use.
Bat size and willow
Cricket bats run Harrow and short handle for adults and 0 to 6 for juniors; English willow grades 1 to 4 and Kashmir willow differ in performance and price. Compare the bat size, the willow grade, the weight in pounds and ounces and whether it is knocked in.
Helmet standard
Cricket Australia's helmet policy names BS 7928:2013; neck protectors (stem guards) are sold separately and are their own requirement in some competitions. Look for BS 7928:2013 on the listing, the grille material (steel or titanium) and whether a stem guard is included or fits.
Golf club spec
Loft, shaft flex and hand are variants of the same club, and a right-handed listing can hide a left-handed option. Compare loft in degrees, flex (regular, stiff) and the hand option.
Boots and studs
Football and footy boots are sold with moulded or screw-in studs for firm or soft ground. Compare the stud type and the US size against the brand's centimetre chart.
